Arsenal Can Still Catch Up With Manchester City

Petr Cech has lost weight in his attempt to prolong his career at the highest level, Arsene Wenger has revealed.

Petr Cech celebrates after Arsenal beat Tottenham Hotspur.

With his goalkeeper struggling at times last season, Wenger applauded Cech's hard work and "perfectionism" in keeping himself in the best possible shape to stay fit and competitive even now, 15 years after he first arrived in English football.

Both of those showings required all of the qualities that Arsenal are so often pilloried for, strength, composure and determination along with a clinical finish when the chance came. If the other teams at this moment above us keep going, keep winning, then you can't catch them.

Do you think he can keep being Number One for many years to come?

"It's only 13 games in". They scored seven at Maribor recently, thrashed West Ham away from home, and put three past Sevilla, so they're usually good for goals on their travels. "I think they created less, which is credit to my players, but their quality will always create opportunities", Wagner said.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has ruled out selling Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in the January transfer window "unless something unbelievable happens".

When asked whether he thought the pair would remain at the club long term, Wenger said: "I am not the only one to decide that".

However, a strong run of form, continuing with Sunday's last-gasp 1-0 victory over Burnley, has boosted the north London side up into the top four of the Premier League table heading into the midweek fixtures.

'Cech has done it because he feels better and because he wants to be at the best, ' Wenger said.

I expect City's impressive home form to continue against an average Southampton team who were hugely flattered by scoring four past an awful Everton defence on Sunday afternoon.

But Cech has faced criticism that he is not at the same standard he was during his brilliant 11-year spell at Chelsea. It is too early to say that.

"It will be a great test for us and a big one especially going to play at somewhere like the Emirates, but realistically every game is a big game for us in this division".

"We can learn that you don't even have to make mistakes for them to punish you", he said.
